James Donnelly was sworn in as the Chief of Police for Central Bucks Regional Police Department in December 2013 following a 15+ year career as Chief of Police for Doylestown Borough Police Department.
In his 25+ years in Philadelphia, Chief Donnelly rose through the ranks to the position of Inspector/ Commanding Officer of the East Police Division. He also served as Commanding Officer of the Stakeout Unit, the Research and Strategic Planning Division, and the Tactical Division. He was the recipient of numerous city, state, and departmental commendations.
In his tenure as Police Chief of Doylestown Borough, he created the Borough's first Traffic Safety Unit, initiated the Borough's first Foot and Bicycle Patrol and was a driving force in the creation of the Central Buck's first S.R.T. (Special Response Team). Chief Donnelly is also credited with the creation of the M.I.R.T. (Major Incident Response Team). CBRPD oversees the use and operation of Bucks County's only BearCat used in SWAT and MIRT incidents.

The Central Bucks Regional Police Department and its members will uphold and enforce the Constitution of the United States of America; the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the ordinances of the Boroughs of Chalfont, Doylestown, and New Britain.
